VERMEERSCH NAMED TO SPHL'S ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

The Southern Professional Hockey League on Wednesday announced its 2013-2014 All-Rookie Team as selected by a vote of SPHL coaches, general managers and media representatives. The list included Rivermen rookie sensation Garrett Vermeersch, who finished the year second in league scoring overall with 57 points.

OVERALL: The #3 Peoria Rivermen begin their first-ever quest for a President's Cup Championship on Wednesday with first-round action against the #6 Columbus Cottonmouths. Overall, the Rivermen completed the regular season with a 30-18-8 record and earned points in eight of their last nine contests.

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Monday the team's final playoff roster, consisting of 16 skaters and two goaltenders. The 18-man roster designates the players eligible to compete in the 2014 President's Cup Playoffs.

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Sunday that former Bloomington Thunder center Kyle Watson has been claimed off waivers. Watson, 27, appeared in 55 games for the Thunder this season and led the team with 13 goals at the time of his release.

The Peoria Rivermen have announced their first-round schedule for the 2014 SPHL President's Cup playoffs. The third-seeded Rivermen will battle the sixth-seeded Columbus Cottonmouths in the best-of-three series, whose roster includes Canadian Women's Olympic gold medalist Shannon Szabados (pictured).

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced a handful of roster moves Saturday including the addition of goaltender Kevin Carr and the return of center Chris Greene, who was called up by CHL Quad City on Feb. 18. Winger Justin Alonzo and netminder Brian Hamilton have each been waived as well.

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Tuesday that forward Robert Vanwynsberghe has been signed to a three-game tryout. The 27-year-old spent 41 games in the Federal Hockey League earlier this season and collected 26 goals with 29 assists.
