St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has relieved Rick Wamsley as head coach of the of the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Peoria Rivermen. No replacement has been named at this time.
“I would like to thank Rick for his dedication and hard work for the St. Louis Blues and wish him and his family nothing but success in the future,” said Davidson.
Wamsley was named the interim head coach for Peoria on Jan. 2, 2010, becoming the 16th head coach in Rivermen history, when Davis Payne was promoted from the Rivermen to the Blues. Wamsley joined the Blues as an assistant coach/goaltending coach on July 7, 2006. In his 43 games behind the Rivermen bench, Wamsley compiled a record of 17-20-1-5. The Rivermen finished the season with 85 points, the highest point total among any AHL team that did not qualify for the playoffs.
