Switching Sides :: Blues Sign David Spina from San Antonio

St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Monday that the club has signed forwardDavid Spina (SPEE-nuh) to a two-way contract.


Spina, 27, has spent the last three seasons with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) San Antonio Rampage. In 2009-10, the 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound forward was limited to just 26 games after a preseason injury but still tallied 17 points (six goals and seven assists). 


In his five-year AHL career, Spina has totaled 180 points in 301 appearances including 69 goals, 111 assists and 237 penalty minutes between Utah, Springfield and San Antonio.


The Springfield, Ill. native was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Phoenix Coyotes on July 2, 2008. He spent three seasons at Boston College (2001-04) before turning pro and racked up 78 points (36 goals, 42 assists) in 98 NCAA games.
