The Peoria Rivermen announced today that center T.J. Hensick has been named the World Painting Company Player of the Month for January. Over the 12 games in January, Hensick scored three goals and added 11 assists and continues to lead the club in overall assists and points.

Hensick registered a point in every January game except for two, Jan. 19 and Jan. 22, when Peoria was shutout in back-to-back games.  He matched his season-high three assists in the Rivermen Jan. 5 over San Antonio.  He also secured a plus-6 rating in the month and is now plus-3 overall.  This season, his first with the Rivermen, Hensick leads the club in points (41), assists (30), power-play points (19), power-play assists (16), game-winning points (8), and points per game(1.14).

The 24-year-old playmaker has also appeared in his third AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 31 in Hershey, Pa.  He had a goal and assist in a losing effort for the Western Conference.  He has appeared in five NHL games this season with the St. Louis Blues and recorded one assist and two penalty minutes.

Last season he played in seven games for Colorado (NHL), recording three points including a goal and two assists.  In addition, he played in 58 games Lake Erie of the AHL, scoring 20 goals and adding 50 assists for 70 points. He was named the “AHL Player of the Month” for December after 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) in 13 games.  He was also named to the AHL All-Star Team for the second time in his career.  In 2008-09 he played in 61 games for the Avalanche and recorded 21 points (4g, 17a).

The 5-10, 190-pound Howell, Michigan native was acquired by the Blues from Colorado in exchange for Julian Talbot on June 17, 2010 and was originally drafted by Colorado in the third round, 88th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
