Peoria Rivermen and the American Hockey League announced today their 2011-12
regular season schedule. The 30th
season of professional hockey in Peoria will begin on Oct. 8, when the Rivermen
host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. to kick off the new campaign.
will once again have a fan friendly schedule, for their sixth season in the
AHL, which consists of 30 of their 38 home games being played on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
a schedule modification plan announced in April, each of the league’s 30 clubs
will play 76 games, 38 at home and 38 on the road. The AHL’s playing calendar
has been extended by one week and all sequences in which teams play four games
in five nights have been eliminated from the schedule.
The AHL will also institute a revised Calder Cup Playoff format in 2011-12.
With the league divided into two conferences of three divisions each, eight
teams from each conference will qualify for the postseason (with division
winners seeded first through third).
fans will have an opportunity to see 13 of the 14 opponents in the Western
Conference this season, with Rochester being the lone exception. The newest member of the Western Conference,
the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes), will make their first appearance
in Peoria on Feb. 11 and return three additional times throughout the season.
and Rockford will once again be Peoria’s most common opponent as the Rivermen
will face both teams 12 times each.
Peoria will play the other two members of the Midwest Division, Chicago
and Charlotte, eight times each.
