The Peoria Rivermen open their first season in the Southern Professional Hockey League on Friday, October 25 at 7:05 p.m. with their home opener following on Saturday, October 26 at 7:15 p.m. Both games are against the Bloomington Thunder and each will include a variety of big-time giveaways, including a new car and game-worn jerseys.
On Friday, all fans in attendance at Bloomington's U.S. Cellular Coliseum will be entered for a chance to drive home in a brand new Mitsubishi SUV. In addition, I-ROCK (96.7 FM) will sponsor a tailgate from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with free hot dogs and popcorn from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be $3 drafts all night long.
On Saturday, the Rivermen return to Carver Arena for their 2013-14 home opener, which will be proclaimed "Bruce Saurs Hockey Night in Peoria" by city mayor Jim Ardis. It will also be Heritage Bank's “Heritage Night,” featuring free magnet schedules to the first 5,000 fans through the doors.
Ticket prices will be knocked back to just $8 for all upper bowl seats – the same price of those seats in 1989 when Saurs first purchased the team.
Following the game, be sure to stick around as 20 lucky fans will win game-worn jerseys straight off the players’ backs. Afterwards, all fans are invited to a meet and greet with the entire 2013-14 Rivermen team, which will take place in the Civic Center’s “Lexus Club” following every home game this season.
