The Peoria Rivermen, in conjunction with CD Country 107.9 (WCDD-FM), have announced the signing of a one-year broadcast agreement to remain partners for the 2013-14 season. The Rivermen and Canton-based station have been affiliated for each of the past two seasons.
The new deal ensures that all 56 regular season contests, along with every post-season game, will be heard on CD Country. Although most games will be aired live, some Friday events in the fall may be delayed due to high school football. The games will continue to be streamed over the Internet to a world-wide audience through the station’s web site (www.cd1079.net).
CD Country 107.9 is carried on a 25,000-watt transmitter -- one of the five biggest signals in the central Illinois radio field. Its 267-foot tower is located on high ground in Canton, and the signal blankets Peoria and spreads outward to reach beyond Macomb, Galesburg, Beardstown, Petersburg, Eureka and Lincoln. The growing station -- which is known for its country music format -- is part of Prairie Radio Communications, an 11-station group that touches Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri.
The Rivermen and CD Country are planning additional team programming, including a monthly coach’s show with head coach Jean-Guy Trudel, to add to their presence in the radio market.
The Rivermen will open their 32nd season of professional hockey, and first in the Southern Professional Hockey League, on Friday, Oct. 25 with a 7:15 p.m. road game at Bloomington. Peoria will return to Carver Arena for its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a 7:15 p.m. rematch against the Thunder. Great seats are still available and start at just $10. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a 2013-14 season magnet schedule and 20 lucky fans will win a game-worn jersey.
