Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Sunday that former Bloomington Thunder center Kyle Watson has been claimed off waivers. Watson, 27, appeared in 55 games for the Thunder this season and led the team with 13 goals at the time of his release.
A native of Stittsville, Ontario, Watson added 11 assists for 24 points with Bloomington this year. Six of those points (4g, 2a) were collected in 17 games against Peoria. In addition, Watson was second on the team with 162 penalty minutes.
Last year, the 6’1, 200-pound forward registered 25 points (14g, 11a) and 98 penalty minutes in 55 games with the now-defunct Augusta RiverHawks. Watson, a third-year pro, began his career with Augusta during the 2011-12 season, where he recorded 22 points (6g, 16a) with 145 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, Watson played four years at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. Over 107 career games, he notched 64 points (34g, 30a) with 208 penalty minutes.
