The Oklahoma City Barons defeated the Peoria Rivermen 3-1 in their first-ever meeting on Saturday night at Carver Arena in front of 5,980. The new affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers broke a 1-1 tie in the third and had 17 saves from Martin Gerber to extend their winning streak to four games.
For Peoria it was their third straight loss and now sits at 7-4-0-0 and third place in the West Division, while the Barons improved to 7-4-1-0 and second place.
Chris Porter put the Rivermen on the board just 2:45 into the first period with a power-play goal through the legs of Oklahoma City goaltender Martin Gerber. Porter received a pass from Adam Cracknell, at the top of the circle before closing in on Gerber and shoveling the puck through Gerber’s five-hole from the side of the net. The goal ended a six-game stretch in which the Rivermen had not scored a power-play goal.
