Date: February 12, 2012 4:00 p.m.
Score(Home/Away): 2-4 W
Just one night after setting a season-high in shots with 47, the Peoria Rivermen were held to a season-low 15 but finished with the same result as they beat the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 on Sunday at the Bradley Center. Brett Sterling scored two goals, to give him 20 on the year, while his linemate T.J. Hensick chipped in with three assists.
The win was the fifth straight victory for Peoria against Milwaukee to even the season series at 5-5-0.
The Admirals scored the only goal of the first period with just 16.2 seconds remaining in the frame. Taylor Beck forced a pass to the crease for Chris Mueller who lifted his 22nd of the season over the glove of Ben Bishop.
Adam Cracknell responded for Peoria just 55 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Phil McRae and Jonathan Cheechoo earned assists as Cracknell walked down the wall and ripped one off the far-post and in for his 13th of the season.
Milwaukee regained the lead at 10:37 when Mueller picked up his second point by finding Zack Stortini just outside the crease.
The Rivermen tied the game once again as Sterling was able to get the shaft of his stick on a shot from Cade Fairchild and deflect the puck past Atte Engren at 13:25.
Sterling found the back of the net again, just 3:17 later, while on the power play to give the Rivermen their first lead of the game. Hensick slipped a pass into the crease for Sterling who kicked it to his stick before he slipped it into the open net.
Derek Nesbitt added an empty-netter late in the third period to close out the scoring and secure a 4-2 win for Peoria.
The Rivermen travel to Rockford on Wednesday for 7:05 p.m. start against the IceHogs. The game can be heard in Peoria on CD Country 107.9 or online through www.rivermen.net.
