POWER PLAY LIFTS ICEHOGS OVER RIVERMEN 4-1

Ben Smith and Jeremy Morin each scored twice as the Rockford IceHogs used three power-play goals to beat the Peoria Rivermen 4-1 on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Mark Cundari scored Peoria's lone goal while Carter Hutton turned aside 23 Rivermen shots.
Cundari's goal came just 3:07 into the first frame on a shot from the blue line that snuck between Hutton's legs. Tyler Shattock and Stefan Della Rovereearned the assists on the play.
Rockford responded with two goals from Smith over a 5-minute stretch to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. His first goal , at 8:27, was assisted by Brandon Svendsen and Matheiu Beaudoin. His second, on the power play at 12:49, was his 17th of the season off a rebound chance from Brandon Pirri and Shaun Lalonde.
Morin scored both of his goals on the power play in the second period. He one-timed home his 18th of the season at 2:28 off a cross-ice pass from Pirri. His second of the game came at 14:53 with the IceHogs on a 4-on-3 advantage.
The game featured a total of 65 penalty minutes and 13 power plays between the two teams. Cody Beach fought twice for the Rivermen but Peoria finished 0-for-7 on the power play. The IceHogs cashed in three times on six chances and outshot the Rivermen 30-24.
